Apparently the Foxtel now service went down last night because of Game of Thrones. Classic.

Good to see the paid service continues to be better than pirating.

If you wanna be real sad google 'nbn cvc' go the 'news' tab and read the article from about 10 hours ago by The Australian

Basically the wholesale cost from NBN Co to the provider is $14 per a mbps, this has led to most providers buying 1 mbps per a customer, so if you had 100 customers you'd purchase 100 mbps for those customers at $1400, this is their reduced price it was $20 at the start of the year, the more the provider charges the more mbps they are probably buying per a customer so better speed, the reason for the charges is because nbn need to pay back the $40 bill to the government

Jesus christ that's steep

Doesn't the new model start discounting it the more they use though? So in practice if everyone started buying double the mbits tomorrow the price should reduce accordingly? One would hope by 50% but probably not. Regardless I think the new model seems much more sustainable.

Nbn co have said to scrap this system would create a political issue of "was nbn worth it" and it now makes up a third of their revenue, cable and adsl customers are now reporting on average faster speeds under their previous technologies due to this model

@blaknite in theory yes over time hence it being lower than the start of the year, the issue is more likely the rise of the cheap providers like MyRepublic who come in at half the price of the big boys and market themselves as exactly the same "product" (the article seemed to indicate Telstra pays about 3 mbps per a customer for example)
Small 5a9e0aa09f2eaba5606b1e1b04c5254e
Yeah that's certainly an issue. In reality the only way to prevent that is to have the pricing model be $X per Y tier connection flat rate from NBN and retailers have no power. That's not going to fly in a capitalist economy. The big boys can't have their cake and eat it too.

Yeah like didn't taxpayer money pay for it but now the government is telling nbn co to pay back the loan and that money is coming from us customers by way of the telco, that feels like us paying for it twice 🤔

That's how every government project is structured trolololol
