After years of debate, argument and general faffing about, the group of Australian attorneys-general have agreed on draft guidelines presented at the last attorneys-general meeting. These have since been amended and this requires some states to seek approval from their respective cabinets.

Long story short, in some time we will be getting an R18+ rating for video games in Australia. It is worth noting that the NSW attorneys-general abstained with the proposal, this could cause a problem with proceedings but, the commonwealth is willing to override New South Wales if they oppose the new laws, meaning that New South Wales would be the only state not selling R18+ games.

This doesn't mean R18+ games will be in your local game shop tomorrow or even next week, maybe in the next few months, if we're lucky. A lot of important progress has finally, been made towards an adult rating for games in Australia.

It's not long now!
