Valve is releasing a "new content system" that "is designed to do two things: deliver better download rates in more places around the world, and also to simply streamline the publishing process on Steam, ultimately making it possible to ship more games than we would have been able to with the old system."
Another feature that is on the coming soon list is the capability for you to prioritize what gets downloaded first and with how much bandwidth it uses - something that has been requested by the community for some time. They also plan to add the ability for us to download updates for a games while we're playing them. Awesome!
These new features will mean we can download games and updates faster with smaller file sizes and that Valve will have capacity to ship more copies of games - something that current system has trouble with during their massive sales. Sounds like a win for both sides.
